Head of the Udmurt Republic Aleksandr Brechalov met with leaders of sports organizations and religious faiths to discuss the results of Udmurtia’s first Interfaith Spartakiad, an athletic contest. Church council chairman Aleksandr Grebennikov represented Christ the Savior Lutheran Church of Izhevsk (ELCIR). The Spartakiad continued for 8 months and involved around 800 athletes. Mr. Brechalov said it’s very good that adherents of different religions rally for such events and noted the importance of involving children and teenagers in sports. Udmurtia’s Minister for Ethnic Policy Larisa Buranova noted that interethnic peace and interfaith concord are not built in offices, but in joint work and shared projects, such as the Spartakiad.
