On August 29, 2025, bishop of the Church of Ingria Ivan Laptev took part in the solemn worship service at Riga Cathedral.

The gathering saw off archbishop Jānis Vanags on his retirement. After 32 years in the position, the archbishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia concluded his ministry.

At the end of the service, archbishop Vanags symbolically left his crosier on the altar of Riga Cathedral. The inauguration of the newly elected archbishop Rinalds Grants took place when he received the crosier. Previously, bishop of the Church of Ingria Ivan Laptev had sent his congratulations to the elected archbishop Grants.
