On June 20, 2024, the Journalists’ House, a cultural center in St. Petersburg, hosted a seminar on Confessional Media and Prevention of Religious Extremism. One of the presenters was ELCIR Media Department Head Kristina Shilova. Kristina used the example of exhibitions, music concerts, lectures, and training courses organized by St. Anne’s Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg (a.k.a. Annenkirche) to show how the church can bridge the gap between itself and secular people, draw their attention to Christian values, and explain its doctrine in a language they understand. The church seeks to overcome the problem of not being understood and wants to show how it can be a safe and open place for any person who might eventually see it as their spiritual home.
The seminar’s participants also visited the Lutheran Church of St. Peter and St. Paul (a.k.a. Petrikirche), the Russian Orthodox Smolny Cathedral of the Resurrection, and the Congregational Mosque of St. Petersburg.
