On June 1, 2024, St. Mary’s Lutheran Cathedral of St. Petersburg hosted a training session on “The Techniques of Using Drama Games in Sunday School.” Svetlana Mashevskaya, Cand. Sc. (Pedagogy), the author of the original methodology, researcher in education history and children’s theater, developed this program specially for this training.
The participants learned to write drama scripts for various Bible stories (the birth of Moses, Moses and the burning bush, Elijah and the prophets of Baal, Jesus’ Baptism, the myrrh-bearers) and to enact those events.
Drama games are not just pieces of theater, but they are also ways to actualize and live through the stories with the children. They work well both for response to the story and for recapping and memorizing it.
