On May 19, 2023, Bishop Laptev attended a meeting at the Office of St. Petersburg Human Rights Commissioner Svetlana Agapitova. Public activists, experts, members of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly, the Committee for Urban Development and Architecture, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ingria met together to discuss the future of the land plot where a St. Mary Lutheran Church was once situated in Petrogradskaya Storona District of St. Petersburg. The church building didn’t survive, however the land was never developed and is now private property. The historical memories of the place are at risk of being obliterated by new buildings. Archeologists have found not only the foundation of the historical church, but also the graves of some of the early builders of St. Petersburg. Local residents want to keep the memorial park they have been taking care of on their own. The Church of Ingria is part of the initiative Obshchestvenny Sad (“Public Gardens”), making prayer on the former site of St. Mary’s Church and petitioning the authorities to find ways to solve the situation.
