From March 21-24, 2023, the Lutheran World Federation held its first regional Pre-Assembly in Oxford, Great Britain, ahead of the global 13th Assembly in Krakow, Poland, scheduled for September 13-19, 2023. Around 120 representatives gathered on the English soil. Bishop Ivan Laptev and Bishop’s Vicar Konstantin Subbotin represented the Church of Ingria.
The agenda included such items as the aftermaths of the coronavirus pandemic and the increase in prevalence of mental illnesses among young people, peaceful solution of conflicts, the ecological crisis, the decrease in the numbers of parishioners in local churches, involvement of women and young people in ministries based on their talents, and interaction between different generations for evangelistic outreach to broader audiences. Another item of discussion was the church’s use of a language understood by those outside the church and enhancement of its presence in public media.
Rev. Subbotin will represent the ELCIR at the LWF Assembly in Krakow. Its topic will be “One Body, One Spirit, One Hope.”
