On June 26, 2022, St. Anne’s Lutheran Church of St. Petersburg hosted a lecture of Egyptologist Natalia Makeyeva, lecturer at the Department of Oriental Studies of St. Petersburg State University. Ms. Makeyeva spoke about the Egyptian Copts.Some of the questions answered in her lecture were as follows:
– Is there a relationship between the modern Egyptian Christians and Ancient Egypt?
– Where do the names Paphnutius, Paisios, and Thais and the Russian letter Ш [sh] come from?
– How many Christians are there in Egypt and how are they different from the other Egyptians?
