“For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.” (1 Jn. 3:11)
On Sunday, November 28, 2021, students of the Basics of Christian Faith course from the Lutheran Church of Koltushi, Leningrad Oblast, had a field class visiting churches of three Christian denominations in St. Petersburg: the Roman Catholic Church of St. Catherine, the Evangelical Lutheran Cathedral of St. Mary, and the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Prince St. Vladimir.
In addition to the dramatic stories of the churches’ past and present, the course students saw the crypt which was the original burial place of the last king of Poland Stanisław August Poniatowski (later reburied in Warsaw), studied and heard a pipe organ, and learned about Russian Orthodox traditions.
Cordial thanks to Fr. Yuri Dorogin (St. Catherine’s Church), Pastor Mikhail Ivanov (St. Mary’s Cathedral), and Fr. Viktor Ivanov (St. Vladimir’s Cathedral) for their time and warm welcome!
