On August 28, 2021, Rev. Sergei Matyukh visited Belgorod in Southern Central European Russia and held a home worship service in the home of sister in Christ Yekaterina.
Yekaterina lives in central Belgorod near a former Roman Catholic chapel (today, a spiritual center of the Russian Orthodox Church). Before the 1917 Revolution, there were quite a few Roman Catholics and Lutherans in Belgorod. It’s known from history that Lutheran pastors from Kursk, Central European Russia, and Kharkov, Ukraine, usually served Lutheran congregants in Belgorod as well. A Polish reserve regiment of the Russian Imperial Army with 16,000 troops which included Lutherans was stationed in Belgorod in the early 20th century. Please pray for Christian believers in Belgorod and the growth of the Lutheran group.
