On August 24, 2021, the Consulate General of Estonia in St. Petersburg hosted a meeting to discuss future collaboration of the ELCIR Estonian Congregation of St. John in St. Petersburg (Jaani kirik) and Trilistnik Project, which assists mothers and children in crises.
The point of discussion was the possibility of creating international social projects. The Church shared about the locations of the ELCIR congregations and the history of the ELCIR Estonian congregation in Verkhni Suetuk in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Siberia. Special mention was made of late Johanna Paap, an ethnic Estonian who served the congregation as a deaconess for a long time, baptizing and performing funeral services in the absence of pastors in the Soviet period. The Consul General expressed interest in preserving this congregation’s ethnic identity and holding worship services in Estonian.
