On July 29, 2021, Mikael Agricola Choir of Sts. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church of Vyborg, Leningrad Oblast, was in the spotlight as journalists were shooting documentaries about Vyborg for a project called “Original Russia: from Staraya Ladoga to the Present Day” and saw the choir as one of the city’s items of interest. For the videos, the choir sang pieces from their traditional summer program they usually sing on the front steps of their church: “The Procession” from Arvo Survo’s Korpimessu (The Taiga Mass), the riddle song of Finnish seamstresses with the accompaniment of a 5-string kantele, and Joachim Neander’s “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty“ with the accompaniment of hand bells. Choir director Darya Shkurlyatyeva: “A strong wind was blowing the music sheets from the stands, the lady singers had to hold their bonnets in place with their hands, but we did it!”
