One year ago on May 25, 2020, the ELCIR Information Department started Online Diary, an online project in the ELCIR’s VK group https://vk.com/infoinkeri posting audio recordings of daily Bible lessons from the ELCIR Lectionary read by ELCIR clergy and lay servants from different congregations (only in Russian). More than 40 people from all of the ELCIR deaneries have taken part in this ongoing project. The project is coordinated by Information Department Secretary Olga Rudaya who also selected excellent illustrations for each post.
Olga Rudaya: “It was not a very easy task to select more than 700 different illustrations such as paintings, engravings, frescoes, mosaics, sculptures, stained glass pictures, and miniatures to attach to each post! There are Bible stories for which you know a few illustrations off the top of your head, but if you need to find several dozen different pictures of such people as King David or the Apostle Paul, you do need to apply quite a bit of effort. I gave priority to either ancient or Lutheran or Russian artists. I was helped by my longtime interest in painting and by the course in Christian art expertly taught by Zinaida Lourié, Cand. Sc. (History), at our Theological Institute.”
In July 2020 when Olga was on vacation, Information Department volunteer Veronika Pogasiy helped select illustrations.
We plan to attach the audios of Online Diary to the online Liturgical Calendar on the ELCIR website elci.ru We’re going to continue learning more about our congregations! Soon we’ll start publishing interviews with church cantors!
