On April 17, 2021, workers of the ELCIR Children & Youth Department held a seminar for children & youth servants at the Lutheran Church of Petrozavodsk, Karelia. The seminar gathered teachers from Kondopoga, Petrozavodsk, Ruskeala, Skvoritsy, and Essoila.
Pastor Aleksei Kronholm opened the seminar with encouraging words about the importance and value of children’s ministry. The seminar participants shared about the challenges of this important ministry and discussed where they could get help from. C&Y Dept. instructor Aleksei Lozhkin reminded why we teach God’s Law to children and that we always need to remember to teach both Law and Gospel. There was a workshop on identifying Law and Gospel in the Bible stories, preparing and conducting the interactive program “The Way of Bread,” and learning the Sunday school lesson development guide created by Yulia Idrisova, the Sunday school teacher from Koltushi, Leningrad Oblast. At the end, the participants shared ideas for summer activities and impressions of the seminar. Everybody agreed that it was very valuable to meet one another in person and hear about one another’s joys and challenges. Such meetings are encouraging, inspirational, and energizing for ministry.
