On October 17, 2020, members of Yamburgsky Church in Kingisepp, Leningrad Oblast, went on a pilgrimage. The group visited the ruins of the churches in Moloskovitsy and Shpankovo. They also visited the functioning ELCIR church in Gubanitsy.
The Lutheran congregation in Moloskovitsy was established in the 1630’s. A white limestone church was built there in 1632 and nicknamed Belaya kirkha (“White Church.”) The congregation in Shpankovo was founded in 1640. A new church building was dedicated in 1833.
Cloudy and rainy weather changed to sunshine on the day on the trip. In the sun and among the ruins of the old churches in the open air, the pilgrims’ prayers and hymns sounded special.
Time goes on and many things change, but “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Heb. 13:8) He protects His children on their life journey and waits for them in Heaven.
