Update on ELCIR Diaconal Department

October 18, 2020

By Aleksandr Smirnov

As we shared earlier, Timur and Alina and their mother moved to their new residence, and we had our new person-in-care Yeva attending a worship service at the Congregation of Kronstadt. She comes from Segezha and is receiving treatment at Children’s Oncology Institute. During the last warm days of the fall, we took the mothers and children in our care sightseeing in Kronstadt.

The ELCIR Diaconal Dept. is assisting Yeva and her mother Darina to go through medical exams in preparation for surgery. Artyom has gone through all the necessary exams and is waiting for the resolution of a commission to assign him a disability category. Every evening, we do a prayer and Bible study together with the children according to their age. On Sundays, the mothers and their children attend worship.

We greatly appreciate the efforts of St. Mary’s Congregation in St. Petersburg in providing clothes and groceries for our project. We have applied for a presidential grant for this mothers-in-crisis project.

We are doing some repairs at our Diaconal Center on Vasilievsky Island, St. Petersburg, removing the consequences of a major overhaul of heating, water supply, and sewers. We paved the area near the front door where there was a pit and are fixing the walls and ceilings inside the facility. The mothers in care have been very helpful cleaning up a lot of construction debris and dirt.

The Diaconal Dept. is doing the repairs out of its own funds and would appreciate donations to support our work.

God bless you!
