The 32nd Synod has supported the initiative to establish a Church Music Committee in the ELCIR. For many years, the ministries of The Church of Ingria have been facilitated by a children & youth, missionary, and diaconal committees, but there hasn’t been a committee coordinating one of the most important ministries, the ministry of church cantors and organists. This gap is being filled! Like all the other committees, the Church Music Committee will function on a voluntary basis. Its membership and rules of procedure will be determined by the Synodal Council at one of its nearest meetings. The committee will be headed by Marina Väisä, the chief organist of St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Petersburg, assistant professor of organ and harpsichord at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, a cantor for almost 30 years.
