Hi!
I’m Nikolai Minenkov, the head of the ELCIR Child & Youth Department. And I’m Yelena Tatti, a child & youth work instructor.
Since there are only two of us, we don’t have a segregation of duties as we do all the work together.
The Child & Youth Department is called to help our congregations enhance and keep up work with children and young people. Today, we are oriented to work more with Sunday school teachers and youth workers. First of all, it’s training and upgrading skills, organizing exchange of experience, encouraging, creating and distributing work materials.
However, we see just as important direct work with children and youth, which our department has been doing for many years, organizing inter-congregational events for children and youth and the annual confirmation class for young people.
We have a lot of experience in working with children and youth, which we really want to share. How can you receive that experience?
Attend study modules of the course for child & youth workers. Currently, the course is taught as 2-3 day long modules (on weekends). Also, we continue working on a distance course, so that ministers in remote congregations could go through training.
Apply to the Sunday school teacher working group called Devyaty val (“The Ninth Wave”) at https://vk.com/nine_val In the group, we share useful materials and ideas.
Be an assistant during one of the Department’s events. If a picture is worth a thousand words, so much the more is direct participation. By trying your hand at being a counselor, you are sure to get as much useful information as possible!
Please keep child & youth work in your prayers!
